Swindon Growers Summit was held for the second year on Sunday 28 April at the Swindon Hub from 10.30-4.30pm. It was a well paced day, speakers interspersed with breaks so there was plenty of opportunity to browse the great selection of stands, including Twigs Community Gardens whose plant stall can be seen in the front of the photo below and also talk to people:
There were also the following stands: a Shumei Natural Agriculture, The Gap, South Swindon Parish Council, Coad Micro Farm, Wonky Veg Club, Blacklands Organics, Robert Checkley and Ivy Bay HomewaresThe first speaker was Lynda Warren whose talk title was 'A Spoonful of Herbs' Then there was a community panel, I briefly talked about South West in Bloom, South Swindon in Bloom and what we are doing to celebrate 60 years of Bloom.
Stu Olden who runs Tadpole Village in Bloom with Pete Welsh was an excellent speaker, filling us in with their ideas on the benefits of community gardening.
He's a fantastically motivational speaker and TGV certainly have their ideas sorted out
This is Ben Raskin Head of Horticulture and Agroforestry at the Soil Association talking about Organic Growing for Health and Happiness

We then had an expert panel answering questions form the floor. They were Jamie Carr, Alan Holland and Eddie Bailey. We finished the day with a talk on Shumei Natural Agriculture which was fascinating
There was a compost testing station with Eddie Bailey from Rhizophilia
Finally we were warned about Asian hornets
It was an inspirational day, an absolute triumph for the main organiser, Josie Slade who worked very hard to put together something really useful for growers.
