Magnolias at Batsford Arboretum

Batsford Arboretum is a magical place to visit at any time of year. I particularly like going when the Magnolias are in flower as they were last week, and they looked good despite the couple of nights of frost we had earlier in the week, and the endless rain. I'm sure there are still some in flower, and the cherry blossom will be coming out now as well. In fact isn't this a magnificent time of year for all blossom? I didn't take masses of photos because last Thursday when we visited was quite windy and there was some rain on and off. There are some fantastic varieties of Magnolia there, these are superb:

The one above is quite small and newly planted, it's called ('Jurmag 4') Burgundy Star and it's possible to buy it
This one was gorgeous but with a label
Above you can see the tree and below a couple of the flowers

Again I've photographed the tree and the flowers
This one is called Magnolia x veitchii 'Peter Veitch, glorious isn't it?
Mine doesn't rival these, it's only been in the garden for 11 years, but is looking very good this year
In addition to the fabulous grounds, there is a great cafe which has been extended, but still serves home cooked food, there's a shop and plant sales area. A great day out for all.
