Anne Desmet R.A.: Kaleidoscope

The Print Room at Pallant House Gallery is a wonderful space where there have been many excellent exhibitions, including the current one which runs until 5 February featuring Anne Desmet R.A. a wood engraver and artist. This exhibition includes work specially prepared for this exhibition, and other works dating back to 1992. I began to look properly at her work when I realised that this wood engraving features The Circus in Bath; if you are familiar with the Circus, this is an amazing view of it, produced in 1997, and gifted to the gallery last year by the artist.

This collaged piece below consists of linocuts and wood engravings with pencil and watercolour, it's called Early Flight and is on loan from the artist
This 2-Block linocut entitled Teatro Romano, is absolutely stunning, thereis so much to see in it.
There were many more pieces to see in this exhibition, I'm ending with a page in Anne's travel sketchbook from 1992-4 of various locations in Sicily, Italy and England.

It's well worth visiting PHG for this exhibition alone, I had gone for the Sussex Landscape: Chalk, Wood and Water exhibition, but decided Anne Desmet needed a post of her own.

I am thrilled that she has agreed to give a talk to the Friends of Swindon Museum and Art Gallery on 23 August
