Old Town Open Gardens Allotment

When writing about those who took part in Old Town Open Gardens 2022, I didn't include Martin Hambidge who has kindly opened his allotment near Greywethers Avenue for several years now, offering advice to anyone interested in having a South Swindon Parish allotment, or indeed any allotment. We arranged to meet at the site, and had a look at Martin's allotment which is very well organised and looking really good. I especially liked the strip at the front of the allotment where he grows plants for pollinators, something I will try at my allotment next year.

Above a general view of one of Martin's two half plots, below some lovely Rudbeckia
and a general view of the left hand side plot
More Rudbeckia, my favourite ones with the gorgeous dark colours
After looking round the allotment, we walked to Martin's own garden where the first thing I saw was a Nemesia growing through the paving
Some gorgeous orange Gazanias in the back garden
a white sea pink
And some gorgeous flowers from a packet of Coreopsis, I'd love some seeds, but they probably wouldn't breed true
I love Sedums, although I'm never quite sure how to manage them for optimum brilliance
Tomatoes looking good
a fly on a lovely Scabious flower
and then over the road from Martin's there's a garden which is splendid enough to have taken part in the front garden competition, it's wonderful
Above a long shot of the front border, and below around the bay window
and below, these haven't photographed so well, but they are fabulous lilies
So maybe they will take part next year?
