Front Garden Competition Prize Giving

The South Swindon Parish's Front Garden Competition was held for the first time this year; we were very pleased with the response, and keen to find a date when the winners could meet and be presented with their prizes of £50 kindly donated by mid Counties Co-op . Dave Griffiths, parish councillor for Eastcott seen below in shorts, had kindly applied for a grant to give prizes for the competition, Vince Ayris, Parish Councillor for Lawn and Badbury Park had kindly donated commemorative plaques which I have maddeningly not photographed! The Prize giving took place on August 9th at 11am.

Sam Victory, our Communications Officer took this wonderful photograph of all of us, together outside the Newport Street Co-op, on the right is the Store Manager:

I took some photos, but they're a bit disorganised because everyone was talking to each other, which was very nice in its way! I'm hoping we can all meet up and look round the front gardens before long.

I'm not sure either of these is worth adding
Anyway, after the prize giving, Gail Collins and Nenita Austin wanted to look at the OTRA Community Gardens, so we went and had a look round at them, despite their dessicated state. Dropping Nenita back at home gave me a chance to look at her beautiful front garden and back garden afterwards.
As you can see the plants are really spectacular and do give a lot of pleasure to passers by.
So what are our plans for 2023? Well I think this competition fits in well with our Bloom ideals of getting more people involved in more growing and looking after their environment.
