#SixOnSaturday: With a Difference this Week

It's been a strange old week, with lots of ups and downs, both at home and in Ukraine where life is so desperately sad. This being the case, I wondered about having a break from #Six, however I have just been to have a look at the author of this scheme, Jon's blog, then read some of the contributors posts, and here I am doing something for #Six.

It's dark now, so no photos of my garden this week. The garden hasn't moved much in terms of buds bursting, frogs laid frogspawn on Thursday, which is later than usual, despite looking and listening for them, I didn't spot any activity at all. Maybe it's because there was only one pair of frogs in the pond? There were about 6 pair last year writhing about and making a lot of croaking noises. I also too delivery of some beautiful snowdrops in perfect condition from Lyn Miles who has a fantastic snowdrop garden at Westcroft which I visited a couple of weeks ago. My NGS yellow book arrived today, I'm already making a note of when some of my favourite gardens are open. Top of my list is probably Oare House which opens on 24 April and 28 June.

So here's what I have chosen, starting with some crocuses in the grounds of Intel:

I rather liked this photo of a sculpture in Portishead harbour with a pigeon on each arm
I was in Portishead to celebrate my mother in law's 90th birthday, she's looking very good isn't she? We had lunch at The Royal which has great views across the estuary to Wales.
Today saw the planting of a second Tiny Forest organised by Earthwatch,  sponsored by Nationwide, Vaillant and South Swindon Parish. The site is opposite where  Nationwide are building homes on the Oakfield site,  Buckhurst Field.  There were over a hundred volunteers planting the 600 saplings.
This is the rather lovely banner they had marking the site.
And lastly I saw what was described to me as the Christ Church rose garden.  It was a memorial garden, and has now had a make over and looks like this:
It has a superb structure and will be wonderful as the seasons unfold.
So there are my six, I'll be in the garden next week hopefully. Meanwhile have a good week, and good luck in the garden, we need to get a move on don't we?

  1. A fascinating - and very different - six! Your mother-in-law looks terrific! I must have come here by fate this morning, since it's my Dad's 91st today. Have a wonderful weekend!
