Lavenham, Bury St.Edmunds and a Sunset

The final visits on this very enjoyable 4 nights in Suffolk staying at the very comfortable Church Farm were to Lavenham and Bury St.Edmunds. It may come as a surprise to know that we didn't spend all that much time in Lavenham or Bury, but bearing in mind the trip was specifically to look at gardens, it may be less of a surprise. The first place we visited in Lavenham was Little Hall, we were given a talk and a guided tour of the house which appeared recently on a TV programme on Lavenham. We had gone to look at the garden which appears below:

Artist Reginald Brill and his wife, Rosalie were wardens of the Little Hall Hostel in the 1960, this drawing of 'Window Shoppers' is a delightful pen and ink drawing. It depicts people doing what everyone who visits Little Hall does, they peer through the windows!

With over 300 wooden framed houses in Lavenham, you're spoilt for choice, this one with its hanging baskets and tubs looked a picture. Eating in Lavenham can be a challenge because of the number of wedding receptions held there. We tried The Greyhound's tapas menu, and sat outside in the extensive seating area. The food was excellent, and the service very friendly and attentive.
In Bury St.Edmunds, the award winning Abbey Gardens are well worth visiting for many reasons, I picked out the wild flower maze and the formal gardens:

and last but not least, on the final evening at Church Farm, there was a fabulous sunset:

So that's the end of the Garden Holiday to Suffolk 2021 blog posts.
