Christmas Tree Festival at Christ Church

The four churches in Old Town Partnership of Churches celebrated their 50 year partnership in December from 1st-22nd by holding a Christmas Tree Festival. The four churches are: St Mary’s Church in Commonweal Road, Bath Road Methodist Church, Immanuel Church in Upham Road and Christ Church on Drove Road.
The idea was that each church used its imagination to offer a different atmosphere and layout depending on building and site considerations. In this way the churches are linked through a single event.  Any donations or money raised will go to the Mayors Charities; CALM (Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Movement) and DCS (Deaf Children’s Society) which are both locally administered children’s charities.
At Christ Church, the ground around the church was transformed by the installation of more than 20 decorated Christmas trees, each sponsored by a local business or charity.
The effect at Christ Church was magical. I visited in the early evening with friend Angela just before Christmas on one of those days when it had rained all day, but stopped before our visit.
The trees above are overlooking the ridge behind the church.
Because we visited in the dark, I can't say which trees were donated by which groups
I should probably have returned the next day in daylight
but I think they look so lovely
the photographs are taken as we walked in an anti clockwise route around the church.
this one was particularly lovely
and seen as a line of trees, they looked great
I chose what I considered the best photograph of the trees to use as the one to use at the beginning of the post
Although the one above hasn't come out very well, I love the effect of the colours. Possibly the best effect was achieved by the illuminated conifer at the front of the church.
From the tree festival, we went to have a delicious Timber's Pizza at The Eternal Optimist which is partnered with the Hop Kettle Brewery. I have added photos taken that night of Angela for the purposes of attracting an audience to our #SwindonHour postings. In case you don't know about Swindon Hour, it's way of promoting things happening in the Swindon community on Twitter. Click on the link, @SwindonHour, if you fancy joining us on a Thursday evening between 8-9pm and let us know what you'd like us to promote.
Angela has already written a very informative blog post about the Hop Kettle Brewery, here's a link to  the Hop Kettle Brewery. And here is Angela getting stuck into the pizza
I took a photo of my pizza for #SwindonHour purposes, something I don't normally do:
If you haven't tried Timber's pizzas, they make a fantastic evening meal. Really tasty, not too heavy, yet satisfying.
