UCNW 68ers Reunion

Some people who first went to University College of North Wales, in 1968, were invited to a lunch at the Victoria Hotel in Menai Bridge, a talk and a trip to the Prince Madog, followed by an evening of entertainment. Having spent a week in Aberffraw walking the Anglesey Coastal Path, I was sad to be leaving there, but Menai Bridge in full sun was glorious. Seeing the balconies at the Victoria Hotel, when we arrived, I hoped we'd have one, and indeed we did, overlooking the Menai Straits, and across to the mainland:
Lunch in the Vic's dining room:
Here's more or less the same view from the balcony later on in the day:
After lunch we went to the School of Ocean Sciences where we heard a synopsis of research projects, many working on renewable forms of energy, largely EU funded. Looking up in the reception area, there was an interesting sort of mobile made out of used plastic.
The School of Ocean Sciences is also celebrating 50 years of existence at Bangor
After the talk, we were shown around the Prince Madog when the light was already fading in the Menai Straits
Here we are walking along the jetty
a close up of the boat
the island in the Menai Straits looked beautiful reflected in the very calm waters that evening
We heard quite a bit about the boat
and then went for a look round inside. There were kitchens, beds and all the sort of comforts for a good cruise.
The views from inside the cabin were brilliant
Earlier in the day, I had a look at Robin's Nest in Llandegfan where I lived for 3 years
and walking down the hill, looked at the familiar view of the Snowdonia Range
What a fabulous day, thank you so much to Pauline Williams and Lesley Conran who jointly organised the day.
