The Big Lake District Walk

Keen to do some 'proper' walking in the wilds of the Lake District, we planned a circular walk from Pardshaw Hall where we were staying. We went along to Kirkhead and then took a route upwards towards Mosedale. The views of the hills were fantastic:
and the stone wall beside the track had the most beautiful lichen growing on it
there were tadpoles in a puddle
and once up on Mosedale, the land spread out

fantastically, it was well worth the hike up there
On the map, there's a clear path along the valley, ending in a T junction, where you take a left turn to Crummock Water. On the ground it wasn't quite that easy. In the photo below, you can just see Crummock Water in the distance far below where we were, with Buttermere beyond, but without an obvious path down there.
Tim had read about Scale Force waterfall having the greatest drop, at 170 feet in the Lake District, and being a great fall to see.
Wordsworth described it as ‘a fine chasm, with a lofty, though but slender, fall of water’.
Lots of other people had also come to see it, suddenly it seemed we were in a popular part of the Lake District, having seen very few other people where ever we'd been up til this point. There were several other people taking photographs of the waterfall. At first it didn't look as spectacular as it did when I got closer
I think this is the best photo
There were lots of new lambs in April, here's a very sweet one

Routes to Scale Force are generally described from Buttermere, we lost any other people we'd been walking with on the path when we reached Crummock Water because we were walking towards Loweswater
Looking back to Buttermere the sky was beautiful
and was still particularly stunning at sunset, here we're walking back to Pardshaw Hall
at the end of a fabulous walk.
The Fitbit recorded 36k steps and 18.5 miles!!
