Grand Etang, Fort George and Grand Anse beach sunsets

I'm going to finish uploading photos of Grenada tonight. It's tempting to put more and more photos on the blog, but enough's enough, there's a limit to how much I can go on, and there are more photos of plant fairs etc to put on here.
We took a minibus from St.George's to the Grand Etang lake in the forest reserve, the journey took about 25 minutes. We had an excellent driver but the road was very windy and rose steeply, I was very relieved to learn we'd arrived at the nearest point to the lake.
There are a few stalls near the information point in the house, and well signposted walks to the lookout points, around one of them was a sort of garden with lots of tree ferns growing well
and here's another one in silhouette
and an epiphyte growing on the stem of a tree fern
 white flowers
and by the lake there were a series of gazebos gifted to the government and people of Grenada by the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Grenada.
There are Lima monkeys, originally from Ghana, they arrived on ships in the eighteenth century, this one appeared to be quite used to being fed bananas and posed for a few minutes.
It was more difficult to get a minibus back to St.George's, but we were picked up after about 25 minutes, once back we visited Fort George, well worth a visit and close enough to the centre of the town to make it easily accessible. It was built by the Frenchbetween 1705-1710, and suffered damage from hurricane Ivan in 2004, although this part of the fort seen below is fine apart from not having a roof.
The views are spectacular, here are the gun emplacements
these are British ones, with GR and a crown on them
The cruise ships dock right by here
Returning to Grand Anse beach in time for the sunset

Maybe this is the best photograph of all?
and then looking back it's quite light:
I love traveling on local minibuses, and the view you get from the bus
here's the bus station snack bar
 Shoprite
 and a general street scene.
A couple more bird photo, this one's a heron:
and this was a very splendid larger heron
and a smaller bird than a grackle on our balcony
Near the Siesta Hotel, there was a shopping mall, there was an art gallery in there, and a small exhibition of work by Lisa Herrera, I liked this one called 'Fishes'. It's US$2800
and here are the others. Anyone can apply to Saffron Cafe to buy paintings or have an exhibition there
OK onto the final photo, another sunset at Grand Anse beach on our last evening:
Wonderful sights, beautiful colours.

  1. Looks like you had a good time. Will you continue with the blog when you visit 102? Will get it clean, attempt to make the garden pass the Kasmaty and Davies test and put my best frock on.

  2. We had a fabulous time. I will continue the blog when visiting you at the end of the month. I love taking photos and putting them onto the blog. Gardening has been challenging this year hasn't it? So cold and so much rain.
