Art Gallery and Batik Making at St George's

After a fabulous stay on Carriacou, we returned back to Grenada for a few days staying again at near Grand Anse beach where we'd stayed before at Siesta Hotel. We took a minibus to St.George's and had a look round the art gallery on The Carenage in the old Court House. I've mislaid the name of the gallery and the owner seen below on the right with one of the artists with work in the gallery. In the background is one of the many Canute Caliste paintings in the gallery.
I took a few photos in the gallery which was OK to do as long as there were no close ups.
Lots of sea and fish inspired work
Some bold wooden sculptures
General over view from the raised platform of the court room.
I also loved the sea creatures on the stairway on the way in
and this iguana
From there we went to  Art Fabrik a fantastic shop where the fabric is dyed, batiked and sown on the premises. Lyn and I struggled not to buy too many clothes, knowing that we get very little weather here when we can wear light cotton fabric.
You can see how wonderful the colours of the clothes are:

So fantastic
We were invited to see the process of making the clothes, below you can just about see that wax is being applied to fabric
Here's the molten wax being kept warm on a small stove
At the front of the room, the light was so bright it's hard to see two people sewing clothes
I've included the photos because it was so interesting to see people sewing
and downstairs at the back of the shop the wax was removed from the cotton with hot water and then the fabric was dyed.
If ever in St. George's it's well worth a visit to both places, I've just looked at the website again and you can buy their clothes online!
