A Visit to the Pound Arts by Train and on Foot

Keen to have a look at the 10th Annual Pound Arts Open in Corsham, I thought it would be interesting to take the train to Chippenham and walk to Corsham from there. Looking at the OS map beforehand, it was fairly clear that footpaths and countryside were in short supply between the two towns, it was a slog along main roads until we reached Corsham Park where things improved a lot, especially as the noise of the traffic receded and there were contented sheep to photograph lying under large trees:
and more sheep lying under trees as we walked further along
Corsham Court itself is impressive, it's an English country house in a park designed by Capability Brown and is notable for its fine art collection, based on a nucleus of paintings inherited in 1757 by Paul Methuen from his uncle, Sir Paul Methuen, the diplomat. It is currently the home of the present Baron Methuen, James Methuen-Campbell, the eighth  generation of Methuens to live there.
And next to Corsham Court is St. Bartholomew's Church with its wonderful spire
Coming out of Corsham Park, passing this lovely old building, Pound Arts is just a short walk up the road.
The Pounds Arts Centre has lots of activities, especially on Saturdays when there are lots of dancing classes held. We managed to negotiate the tutus and found the art exhibition
which runs until this Saturday. It's a great exhibition, with two works by Tim Carroll seen below
and Caroline Day's painting beautifully positioned above the fireplace
Sarah Purvey won first prize for her ceramic piece
This picture caught my eye, it's by Janet Coleman, entitled 'Watching'
It was lovely to see Katie Ackrill behind the desk, I took a sneaky photo of her while she was busy on the phone! You can hear Katie talking about the show on this link:https://twitter.com/i/web/status/941981658504486912
From the Pound, we dropped in at the Methuen Arms, a great place to relax on a Saturday lunchtime before a walk back to the station via the park and back a slightly different way than we'd come and on Rowden Hill saw the Eddie Cochrane memorial plaque at the side of the road.
When we arrived at Chippenham station, the 15.26 London Paddington train was delayed and there was one listed going to Swindon only, it disappeared after a short time and we caught the delayed 15.26 train.
A great day out, do visit the exhibition if you can.
