Wassailing at TWIGS

On 13 January TWIGS held their annual Wassail where lots of people gathered to follow the King and Queen of the Wassail round the garden making lots of noise to chase away bad spirits and wake up the fruit trees in the garden. It's a merry occasion and feels very much like the start of the growing season.

Here's the Queen of the Wassail underneath an apple tree handing out toast for people to hang on the tree. It looks green behind her because it has so much mistletoe growing on it.
Above the King of the Wassail giving the tree some cider to encourage its growth

Entertainment was provided afterwards by the Icknield Way Morrismen

There's always a lot to photograph at TWIGS, here's a selection of photos:

As you'll see from their website, TWIGS are open Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 10am-3.30pm and they have many special events throughout the year, the next one being Spring Open Day on 21 April from 11-4pm
