Salthrop House Rare Plant Fair

The weekend before last, on the 14 May there was a plant fair for the first time at Salthrop House, just beyond Wroughton and so very handily situated for those living in Swindon. It was a fantastic success, people poured in from all around, and at one point I thought we'd run out of parking space in the large field adjacent to the fair.

The 16 nurseries attending had magnificent selections of plants, a wonderful variety of delightful things. The setting was beautiful, with the plant sale on the front lawn and refreshments in the back garden. The photos give an idea of how lovely the setting is for a plant sale.

As you can see, there were lots of people. And probably more people seen from a bit further back:
In front of the house, there was a lovely display of white tulips, not something I'd think of, but they looked very good.

Here's the back of the house where tempting looking food was being served.
Tim found a sun lounger and sketched while Judith and I bought plants and wandered round the garden.
This is the view from the rear of the house
Sadly I left a bag containing three plants behind and when I discovered this, went back to look for them. Sadly they weren't to be found, but it gave me a chance to have a look round the vegetable garden and glasshouse on my return visit. Next Sunday it's Kingston Bagpuize RPF! No end to the fun.
