Old Town Open Gardners' Tour Day 2

Last Wednesday, gardeners who had opened their gardens met up to look at gardens not visited the previous evening. I missed Sue's garden on Bowood Road because of a parish meeting, but caught up with the tour in The Mall where we looked round a garden created over the last year, and looking very well organised, with lots of interest in the raised beds

My interest was immediately drawn to the raised vegetable beds with trellis attached to the fencing behind them.
An interestingly shaped pond
and above one of the brick edges flower beds with a very well grown Tagetes among other things in it.
Here are the group looking round, I think chatting about the several sheds. The area behind the pergola houses compost heaps and wheelbarrows. From there we went to Carol and Danny's garden in the Quarries, situated on about an acre of land, this garden has many different features, some of which I captured below
These next three features are all in the same Japanese styled front garden area; above a lovely seating pagoda
a swing seat
and a bridge over a pond with a waterfall to the left
We were then shown round the back garden which is divided into a series of themed garden rooms
There's ruined abbey brickwork
through the archway there's a wildlife pond and at the end of the garden, there's an abandoned Native American reservation
There's a pathway among the bushes through to the other side of the house where there's a greenhouse, vegetable and fruit garden. Finally as we were about to leave I saw this lovely fountain beside a sweet scented jasmine.
Onto our final garden, a surprisingly large and private garden off Bath Road
There are lots of mature trees and lawn in this garden, interspersed with some lovely flower beds and  sculpture
The hydrangea in this white themed bed was lovely, I must include more hydrangeas in my garden, I'm a bit put off  by their size, but this one persuaded me that maybe other things have to go to make room.
Above, this is the view from the patio at the back of the house, it's very calm and balanced
This gives an idea of the view to the left from the patio
and this final photo shows the beautiful curving nature of the path on the right hand side. I love metal edges to lawns and beds, but they do deter the gardener from enlarging beds which I always want to do.
Finally, I would like to thank all 10 head gardeners, and in some cases under gardeners, for joining in with Open Gardens 2022 and helping raise £1925-40 for our various charities. I do hope you will consider joining us next year, and encourage others who love gardening to join in.
