The first week of October was spent at Ventnor Botanic Garden on the Isle of Wight, or VBG, called 'Britain's hottest garden', it was certainly very warm when we stayed there; apparently 4 degrees above the average temperature in Britain. It is possible to stay at VBG and yes, it's as good as it sounds, four of us stayed at Signal Point a delightful cottage at the top end of the garden with fantastic views of the garden, and the sea in the distance. It is possible to spend the whole time in and around the garden, the coastal path skirts the southern edge of the garden, and from there it's a short walk to Steephill Cove walking east, and then onto Ventnor town with the nearest pub The Spyglass Inn.
Walking west along the coast to Niton via St.Lawrence and then inland to make a circular walk via Whitewall and Nettlecombe also provides a wonderfully varied walk.
From the garden, it's a short distance to the coastal path where there are various places to get glimpses of the sea, I think that's Steephill Cove in the distance, reached of course by a steep hill down!
Here's Tim looking out to see from Steephill Cove on the first evening
before we went up to the gardens again, a sunset developed, only partly seen because the coast faces south, and we're looking west but St Catherine's head gets in the way a bit.
The next evening, we were on our way along the coastal path to the Spyglass Inn for a meal when we could see another sunset developing
and finally looking really good
There was a mix up over where we were meeting Sarah for the meal, so we never did eat at The Spyglass Inn!
