Ickworth, an Italianate Palace

Ickworth is certainly an amazing place, it's described on the website as an Italianate Palace in the centre of Suffolk and 'Ickworth house with its classical Rotunda, East and West Wings, forms the centrepiece of the Ickworth estate. It reflects its former owners, the Hervey Family’s tenacious spirit and has been preserved by the custodianship and influence of unconventional men and women over successive generations.' It is so impressive, it's quite extraordinary with the beautiful rotunda, built to live in, but apparently not a comfortable place to live in. Extra wings were built for the family to live in.

There are some great cedars in the grounds. The inside of the building has been recently undergoing refurbishment with lots of artefacts still wrapped up, and many rooms in darkness.
The bathroom had some beautiful tiles around the bath and a circular washbasin, looked quite up to date.
The living room was sumptious with a great chandelier in the middle of the room.
The best bit for me was down by the lake, a Summer House which conjured up days when the family might escape from the house and enjoy a picnic and some games..
Porter's Lodge now doubles as a cafe with a great selection of plants in pots around the outside.
And another view of a cedar.
Great place to visit, large grounds and a fascinating house. The walled garden is huge, sadly now not being used as it would have originally been, to grow fruit and vegetables with some ornamentals as well.
