Last weekend I visited my friend Pam who lives in Chickerell, near Weymouth. It was two years on from the last visit because Covid got in the way last year, and the Plant Fair which was a spur to visit initially was cancelled. When I first saw the garden, Pam had recently moved into a new house, and had the garden redesigned from a basic lawn to a sleepers and gravel garden. The resulting garden is fabulous, so thought I'd share some photos on here:
This is the first view from the house, you can just see on the right of the photo, sleepers enclosing a small pond; the Erigeron Karvinskianus just in evidence beside the sleeper is some, Pam reminded me, that I sent in the post!!Above is another raised bed by the back door
A clematis and geranium Rozanne filled raised bed with a castor oil type plant, Fatsia? looking glorious.
Another lovely aspect of the garden is a hidden path behind the main raised bed, so ingenious
More lush foliage above and below
What is endlessly fascinating is how wonderfully different gardens can be, every garden is continually changing, not just with the seasons, but as plants are added and taken away. A lovely Vinca had outgrown a corner of the garden, so I removed it, with Pam's permission and have now divided it into 8 plants, and put some at the back of the Marriott bed garden where I hope it will thrive. You might just be able to see it between the frondy leaved plants:
I have planted them there because I've seen how vigorously they can grow.
