Fishing for the Moon Garden Official Opening!

This garden on Swindon Road has been refurbished by South Swindon Parish Council over the last year, with undergrowth and shrubs removed, benches refurbished, handrail tidied up so that it now enhances the area. The planting scheme designed and planted by Aaron Hedges, Head Gardener at the Town Gardens is based on the theme of a sensory garden, plants chosen for their scent or how they feel. How did the garden arise? It seems there was a house on the site, with a pathway between it and the next house going up the hill; the house was demolished in the 1950s and in 1991, as part of a regeneration project in the area, the brickwork was installed and the garden was created. It has a plaque on the ground by Michael Farrell, and there are more photos here in Swindon Index.

There was an Adver article in January which shows a couple of maps of the area with the house there and then not there.

I thought it was a good idea to have an official opening with a bit of fizz and some sandwiches to celebrate the regeneration of the garden which has turned out really well. Matt Leather, Communications and Events manager for the parish, took some really good photos which I'll include first and then add mine:

And then a couple of general photos of the steps, up and down
This is the signage which will be installed
And here are a couple of photos I took:

Going forward I'm hoping we can maintain the garden with a team of community gardeners. There is vigorous bindweed which needs regular attention.
