Llanover House Rare Plant Fair

Plant fairs didn't really get much of a chance to get off the ground this year, with most of the summer ones cancelled due to Covid-19, however three did take place with social distancing, and great care taken, at Adwell House, The Bishop's Palace,Wells and Llanover House. It was great to be meeting people from nurseries,  talking about their plants, their summer and importantly, buying as much as I could do. I didn't get to Bishop's Palace, but Adwell House was not only an excellent plant fair, but the gardens were superb, and on the stillest of days I took one of the photos with reflections in the water, which was very satisfying.
But onto Llanover House, as the name suggests, It's in Wales, north of Usk, and involves driving past rugged, mountainous countryside, a bit like going on holiday. When we arrived, we parked in a big field and made our way to the huge selection of plant stalls, all well spaced apart from each other.

I love the way the stalls are so enticingly well laid out, it's a work of art in itself.

Above Becky from Tortworth Plants in between customers, they had fabulous array of plants as usual. I didn't hold back when it came to selecting plants for my garden and the community beds.
Above a photograph of plants I bought there, and below a photo of more delightful plants on the stall
I don't remember encountering Cotswold Garden Flowers run by Bob Brown before, he had an excellent array of plants, including a variegated Aeonium, which I wish I'd bought. There will be fairs next year, the provisional dates are here, so maybe I'll be able to buy one then. I made a repeat purchase of a delightful Begonia I have really enjoyed in the past, it's Begonia sutherlandii, seen below, courtesy of The Enduring Gardener's blog.

My pride and joy - Begonia sutherlandii

Having bought the plants, we went to have a look round the gardens, the circular walled garden with massively deep, wonderfully filled borders was fantastic. I took quite a few photos:

There were several clumps of red hot pokers, these were so bright and perfect. Does anyone know what sort they are? I'd love some of these in my garden,
The Phlox were stunning
and it's always good to have a circular building in a circular garden
The river Rhyd-y-meirch runs through the garden, another bonus, I thought this view out of the garden looked good, until I walked round and saw the view looking into the walled garden was even better.
The tall grasses gace a lovely background to the Helleniums seen in the front, and the purple asters behind.
Everything looked in absolutely superb condition, at a time when we've had quiet a few dry periods, and the garden might have looked a bit 'past it'.
Rudbeckias and tall grasses below
Looking across the lake to the walled garden
from the lake there's a bit of a feature
there's also an aboretum to walk through beside the river, and as one would expect, masses of cyclamen underneath trees.
A great day out, lots of inspiration in the garden, and on the plant stalls.
