The 167 Annual Open Exhibition at the RWA

I recently went to have a look at the RWA's Annual Open Exhibition in Bristol, it's a prestigious venue to have one's work displayed, and a lovely place to visit. I looked at their website, and discovered  they are currently trying to raise £3.5million to achieve the following aims:
  • Make urgent repairs to save the RWA’s Grade II* listed galleries from catastrophic failure.
  • Bring world-class art and exhibitions to Bristol, attracting 40% more visitors and community users to the RWA.
  • Extend RWA’s celebrated community and wellbeing programmes so more vulnerable and isolated people can find enjoyment through art and creativity.
  • Deliver a step-change in financial and environmental sustainability.
  •   Getting back to the exhibition, I was really impressed by the high standard of the works on display in the Open Exhibition, and keen to find, my husband, Tim Carroll's works in the exhibition. You can see the ceramic piece above has a red spot beside it, so yes it has sold. In fact it sold on the first day apparently.
'The Designers' seen below haven't yet found a new home, but were looking very good on the wall.
After finding Tim's works, I chose a few other pieces that caught my eye:
Above is David Backhouse's white bull in bronze, and behind that there's Reece Ingram's 'Shag'. All works are listed on the RWA's website
I liked this painting, 'Telling a Small Story' by Shelagh Wilson
and there were 2 paintings by Kurt Jackson, I'm a big fan of his work
The one above is 'The Clam Hunters' and below 'A Glass of Dandelions, Primroses and Celandines'
And this one is a collage by Zara McQueen titled 'As the Crow Flies'
I took a couple of photos of the building as well.
Looking up before going into the main gallery, there's a wonderful roof light
And here's a bit of detail of the painting by the roof
And looking out onto the balcony there's a great view of gold figures and another majestic building opposite.
