Town Gardens Bowls Club

I have walked past the Bowls Club in the Town Gardens many times, but had no idea how it runs, how many members it has, or really what goes on there during the summer months, with a season running from May to September. I visited last week with Parish Councillor Neil Hopkins to find out more about the club.
Established in 1912, it has played a large role in the social life of Old Town for over one hundred years. The photo above depicts their shield, a couple of trophies and the centenary celebrations picture.
I rather liked this one above, 'good for fun, good for friendship good for a laugh...BOWLING'. After coffee and biscuits, and a chat about the practicalities of running the club, we looked at the setting of the club and I took some photos outside, although it was just going dark when I started, so they're a bit dull, the view from the clubhouse across the green is stunning:

It reminds you of how many trees there are in the Town Gardens.
We had a photo to remind us of the meeting, Eric Bates (Fixtures Secretary), Monica Brian (Ladies Captain) and Jim Morris, Treasurer. Parish Councillor Neil Hopkins is second from the left. Neil and I will be sampling the drop in sessions at the Bowls Club on a Friday evening once the season starts again in May. More on their Facebook page.
