I was very excited to book a Ramblers Holiday at friend Jane's suggestion a couple of months ago. 'It's in the Yorkshire Dales and there's Pilates involved' she said, sounded great. It wasn't until nearer the time I looked into the logistics, like where were we based and how would we get there. We needed to get to Skipton by early afternoon, trains via London, probably not a sensible idea, cost £250 return, so I decided to drive the 220 miles from Swindon to Skipton, something I would have thought too far to travel in a day. Really it's up the M5 then M6 and across the Pennines on the M65 and then a turn off takes you to Skipton. It was very easily achieved. We stopped at a services on the M6 and sat drinking coffee beside a delightful lake at Chebsey accompanied by ducks who were keen to sample our shared almond slice
here are the ducks
When we arrived in Skipton, we easily located our hotel, The Rendezvous Hotel on the outskirts of Skipton by a canal. On arrival we were given keys to our rooms, Jane had a beautiful view of the canal, and I was at the front of the hotel with no view at all. The hotel staff were very kind and swapped my room for another one with this delightful view of the canal.
At 5pm we had our first session of Pilates with our group of 8 walkers and our leader Debbie. A great start to the holiday.
