The 100 Baby Boomers Project

I agreed to be part of a Baby Boomer project without really finding out about it properly. All I knew was that it involved a day out in Swansea meeting friends Jay and Kathy and posing for a portrait of the three of us together rather like the Instagram photo of the three of us taken on a trip to Bristol.that I've tried without success to capture so I can reproduce it here, but can't.
We met at Swansea station, had a wander round the docks before meeting Rose Davies at Swansea Print Workshop in Clarence St. The first interesting thing about the place is the beautiful glass in the door
and secondly the yellow door which looks as though it leads to a house, in fact leads to a long corridor with a huge workshop at the back. The terrace was built by two separate builders from either end and they didn't meet in the middle, so created an industrial premises at the back of the building where the adjoining houses gardens would have been.
Before getting down to the business of doing the drawings, Rose Davies, Rosie Scribblah as she is also known professionally, Rose introduced us to the printing area. Seen below is Rose talking to Kathy with her back to us, and Jay side on, showing us a press that belonged to David Hockney at one time.
 Here's another view of it
We then looked at the ancient Columbian Press manufactured by Ullmer & Son in 1855
Here's a view of the brass label and then the view of the whole of it

We had a look round the gallery space which was a dance studio previously and still retains the mirror
From here we sat in the kitchen area drinking coffee and eating some of Rose's delicious lemon drizzle cake while she explained the project, and our part in it. Two years ago, Rose decided to draw portraits of 100 Baby Boomers, those born between 1946 and 1964, talking about what growing up as a BB meant to them. We weren't drawn together, but took turns to sit for Rose while the other two wandered round Swansea. Kathy went first, so Jay and I headed for the beach which was glorious whichever direction you looked:
 Buildings on the front
and looking the other way. There's something great about living by the sea isn't there?
I thoroughly enjoyed my session with Rose, it's a form of therapy talking about oneself and being drawn. I was number 98 of the 100, Jay came afterwards and is number 99. Below here's Rose holding my portrait.
And at the end of a fabulous day, here's a photo of the glorious sunset seen from the Beehive when I got home.
More about the 100 Baby Boomers project when I know more.
