By now, anyone living in Swindon will have been to TWIGS Community Gardens in Cheney Manor. Visits there are always inspiring, and a great opportunity to do a bit of retail therapy, whether it's their perennials, brilliant value at 6 for £10, or crafts. On 20 May, they opened for the National Garden Scheme, or 'yellow book'; this is very exciting because they are only one of two gardens in Swindon to open for the NGS, the other is Lydiard Walled Garden which is open tomorrow, 10.6.18 for the NGS, I'll go and have a look.
Back to TWIGS, here are some photos taken at their NGS open day:
I love the silhouette of the iron poppy seed heads seen above
The Alliums were looking fabulous
People walking round the individual gardens were really enjoying themselves
There are lovely features around the gardens like this metal magpie
The Iris sibirica were just coming out
Here's a general view of gardens
The Medlar was in flower, looking absolutely gorgeous
Apart from buying plants, I also bought a very attractive home for insects, here it is installed in my garden.
And the next open day is a midsummer one on Saturday 24 June, 11-4pm, here's the poster:
