Described by the NGS as a 'Beautiful ornamental C18 walled garden. Trimmed shrubs alternating with individually planted flowers and bulbs including rare daffodils and tulips, sweat peas annuals and wall trained fruit trees. Unique features including well and sundial. Wide level path, no steps.'
and because it's one of two gardens open for the National Garden Scheme in Swindon, I went to have a look at the beautiful walled garden at Lydiard Park.
It was beautifully presented, with not a weed in sight, or a plant out of place. I took a few photos, here they are:
probably my favourite in terms of juxtaposition of shrubs, path, stone ornament and other plants.
The poppies were just peaking last Sunday in the sweltering heat
This fuchsia was lovely, but photographed a bit against the sun.
I loved this small flowered foxglove that was very much in evidence in various places
there was only one sighting of this large flowered salvia
and here's another photo of the foxgloves. I was hoping to buy the foxgloves and salvia in the shop.
Beside the car park, were the gorgeous piebald horses with their foals.
The other garden open for the NGS is TWIGS, both gardens are fab, but it does seem a shame we don't have more gardens open in Swindon.
