Holidaying in the Lake District

Last month I had a brilliant holiday in the Lake District, partly to visit Whitehaven where my grandparents lived, and also because of the majestic beauty of the scenery. We stayed in a cottage in Pardshaw Hall, just south of Cockermouth and on the edge of the Lake District National Park. I'm going to share the photos and experiences of the Lake District over the next few posts.
On the first day, after a drive up the M4 and then heading west along the A66, we'd been very sedentary, not good for the Fitbit steps, so having looked at the OS map, we walked along a track to Loweswater, our nearest lake, around it, found The Kirkstile pub at the furthest end and walked back.
Above first view of Loweswater from the track by Darling Fell, and below easy walking along the track
 Further along the track
This house on the road to the pub was built in 1697 according to the stone above the door
Had a great holiday pint in the Kirkstile Inn before heading back along the other side of Loweswater
And on the way back, the sun came out, what a difference it makes to the photographs
Lovely first evening, couldn't find these walks without the fabulous OS maps
