Walking Round Thorney Island

When visiting the Pallant House Gallery, I stay with a friend in nearby Emsworth and try to attempt a walk in the glorious countryside around there. Living so far from the sea in Swindon, a walk in view of the sea is preferable to almost any other destination. A walk around Thorney Island is just perfect, it takes almost 3 hours and takes in some remote spots, and being adjacent to Emsworth is easily accessible.
The island isn't really an island, but a peninsula that juts into Chichester Harbour in West Sussex. It is separated from the mainland by a narrow channel called the Great Deep.
It's a former RAF base and still operated by the MOD, the public are allowed to walk around the outside of the island, but not to stray off the path. On approaching Thorney from either end, you have to buzz the gatekeeper to be allowed along the path, and then press the buzzer again to be allowed out at the end of the walk. There have been times when the path is closed to the public.
I took these photos when I did this walk a couple of weeks ago, the weather was changeable but dry as can be seen from the colours of the sky, this is The Great Deep:
and these were taken on the way round
Wonderful skies and vistas that day
And just look at these clouds

I've also found a good aerial view of Thorney Island
