Sardinian Holiday First Stop, Alghero

After open studios, I went on a Sardinian mother and daughter road trip for 8 nights. We got a taste of Sardinia with it's wonderful turquoise blue clear water, fabulous scenery, regional food and drink and quiet roads. It was only when we visited some of the Rough Guide's top 17 that there were many other people around. We were on the 'shoulder' of the holiday season in September of course.
We flew to Olbia and then drove the 136 km to Alghero in a hired car, found our accommodation with the aid of the phone's sat nav, and found a place to park quite easily because we were outside of the charming old town with its cobbled streets with many bars and restaurants, and lots of jewellery shops selling coral necklaces and earrings for which the area is famous.
The next day we walked towards the sea, and then along the beach in a northerly direction, where one of the most lovely views of the beach from the pine trees:
In the distance you can see the Capo Caccia with Neptune's caves underneath
The white daffodil like flowers were looking good in the dunes
We carried on walking along the beach until we arrived at Fertilia, a town which seemed very quiet at siesta time. We came across an English couple who'd had lunch at a lovely bar overlooking the picturesque Ponte Romano, or Roman bridge. We'd seen the bridge, but not noticed the sign to the bar.
The bridge was partially restored in the Middle Ages and the 1930s, when I imagine the concrete was added to the surface of the bridge
There are lots of Roman bridges in Sardinia, this one is listed here: https://followinghadrian.com/2015/03/11/looking-for-roman-bridges-in-sardinia/
The bar is certainly worth a visit, not only does it have an excellent view of the bridge, the service and food are wonderful. Have a look at the reviews of Sottoprua.
When we got back to our apartment, it was delightful to relax on the balcony before searching for a place to view the sunset.
