Sissinghurst Castle

East Sussex is a fabulous spot for gardens, I only managed 2 visits on this trip, the first the Great Dixter, and the second to Sissinghurst a hugely popular garden.
'Historic, poetic, iconic; a refuge dedicated to beauty. Vita Sackville-West and Harold Nicolson fell in love with Sissinghurst Castle and created a world renowned garden' as it says on the website.
There was quite a lot of information about the legacy of LGBTQ individuals, particularly Vita and Harold at Sissinghurst because this year marks 50 years since the Sexual Offences Act (1967) which partially decriminalised homosexuality in England. The National Trust will be celebrating with a year-long programme entitled ‘Prejudice and Pride. Fellow museums, heritage organisations and the media will all mark and celebrate LGBTQ heritage and culture throughout 2017. It’s an opportunity to reflect on the legacy of those LGBTQ individuals whose story has not yet been fully told.
Beside one exhibition was this magnificent display of dried flower heads:
 And then outside vistas
 the tower
some beautiful sweet peas, maybe past their best with a bit of mildew, still a lovely colour though
 Hydrangeas in pots were stunning
 and these Ixias?
 Heleniums
 Dahlias
And from there we drove home along the M25 and M4.
