Derek Jarman's Garden in Dungeness

The reason for staying in East Sussex recently was to see the late Derek Jarman's garden on the huge expanse of shingle at Dungeness. On a visit to Rye two years ago, staying at the former windmill, I'd come across Derek Jarman's book on his garden, made a note of the ISBN number and ordered it. The beauty of the place and garden is wonderfully movingly described in the book:

On the second day of the holiday, on a fabulously bright day, we drove down to Dungeness, past Camber Sands and Lydd to what seems like the end of the road, as indeed it is.
The garden is amazingly intact and is beautiful, with an endless stream of visitors who come, marvel, walk round to the back garden and walk on.
I took a couple of photos from the back of the house
and tried to photograph some of the artefacts dotted around the garden, without much success
And this is the front garden, which does look more organised in the book. I think maybe some of the stones and pieces of metal have been taken

I particularly liked this piece of wood
From the garden, it's a short walk to the sea
and the lighthouse and the pub, which was surprisingly busy
The nuclear power station is there in the background, but it doesn't dominate as far as I'm concerned.
Since the visit, The Saturday Guardian has done a piece in the colour supplement in the Homes section on Dungeness cottages, and GQT has come from Dungeness with Matt Biggs doing a piece on the garden.
