Swindon in 50 Buildings

This splendid book written by Angela Atkinson was launched in the Bakers Cafe on 3rd of August, is Angela's second book. Angela's first book 'Secret Swindon' is stocked widely and well worth a read.  I first met Angela before she was a published author, while studying for her English degree, Angela wrote a blog, Born Again Swindonian, about Swindon, we met through a shared interest in blogging. A click on the link, shows Angela is still writing her blog regularly, I on the other hand have had difficulty keeping up with blog posts.
Swindon in 50 Buildings examines the history of 50 buildings chosen by Angela for a variety of reasons, it's a fascinating read with a great mix of buildings throughout the town explored. The front cover features one of Angela's favourite buildings, the  David Murray John Tower seen below:
The Wyvern Theatre opened by HM, The Queen, Elizabeth II in 1971 is featured in the book, Angela mentions that her husband Price Philip walked 2 steps behind as protocol demands. A photograph taken at the time confirms this, and also that it was raining that day; the Queen had an umbrella, but Prince Philip didn't! I have the photo somewhere.
Here are some photos of the book launch:
In the first one above, you can just see Angela as a small dot in the middle of the picture
I think I tried to get a bit closer
Above lots of photos being taken
and here Angela is launching a rocket.
Angela has now published a third book, A Ken White Retrospective, more about that another time.
