Portishead in Bloom

As a regular visitor to Portishead , I've been very impressed by the floriferousness of the streets, crossings and roadsides. It makes such a difference to the appearance of a place when it's obviously cared for and loved by its residents. Portishead is not alone in this, it's partly the influence of taking part in South West in Bloom. This is from their website:
'South West in Bloom is one of eighteen regional/national competitions that makes up RHS Britain in Bloom, which is the biggest horticultural campaign in Europe. The aim of the community groups that take part each year is to improve and regenerate our local environments and neighbourhoods.  This can be through the imaginative planting of trees, shrubs, flowers and landscaping, conservation and recycling projects, and to sweep away the eyesores that blight our streets, such as litter, graffiti and vandalism.'
RHS Britain in Bloom scheme summed it up on their website like this:
' RHS Britain in Bloom is a nationwide community gardening campaign to transform cities, towns & villages. It’s been helping people to improve their local environment since 1964
More than 1,600 groups participate each year focusing on community action to transform spaces. Anybody can register a local group and get stuck in straight away.'
With over 20 years of Bloom experience under their belt, the Portishead Bloomers are absolutely first class at everything they do. Not only is a visit to Portishead inspirational, but since being encouraged to enter our 6 Old Town Residents Association Gardens into It's Your Neighbourhood' last year by Richard Beale who is involved in Marlborough in Bloom, I have been keen to find out all I can about the scheme from encouraging people to participate to publicity. This year South Swindon Parish entered South West in Bloom, and as a parish councillor chairing the sub committee entitled Bloom, Wildlife and Gardens, I'm feeling even more urgency to find out more about other towns and how they are approaching Bloom.
I last visited Portishead on 22 July, and as usual went to the The Royal Inn for a fish and chip lunch and was very impressed by this hanging basket as well as the food and views over the estuary:

On the way back from the Royal, while walking past a particularly lovely front garden, I heard the familiar sound of a dustpan and brush being used on the driveway. I stopped to talk to the person brushing and she said she was awaiting an inspection and this was part of Bloom, what a great idea to assess individual gardens as another part of South West in Bloom.Looking at the website, I've tried to work out if this garden was part of Open Gardens, but am not sure. Anyway here are a couple of photos of the front garden:
It was very striking as I walked past
The judges arrived as I was there, and I managed to get a photo of them in the back garden, quite a coincidence to be walking past at that very moment when they arrived.
I haven't got more photos than these of the displays because I walked from South Road along Burlington Road to the Royal and back, and then did a gardening job, so on the way home stopped by the petrol station and photographed these two displays, a large tub
and a display on a railing
The deadheading must take hours!
