Autumn Colour at Batsford Arboretum

Batsford Arboretum is one of my favourite places to visit, it has a wonderful selection of Acers, Magnolias and Sorbus, so it's particularly splendid in spring and autumn, but good at any time of the year. There's also a fabulous cafe with a choice of cooked meals for lunch, and a wonderful selection of cakes for afternoon tea. Last Friday there were some spectacular shows of colour, and a very changeable weather pattern meant there were lots of blue skies and then suddenly heavy downpours of sleet.
I think this was one of the most dramatic views, of Acers between other trees:
Other glorious trees included these
in between the showers, here's an Acer partly illuminated by the sun
at the village end of the arboretum the church of St Mary, Batsford looks very dramatic
and a few more Acers looking a bit similar

This one was probably the brightest red of all
I loved the pink berries on Sorbus pseudohupehensis 'Pink Pagoda', but they didn't look all that dramatic on the photograph:
There was a small glade of Katsura trees in one area of the arboretum. I love the smell of the heart shaped leaves in autumn, a bit like burnt sugar.
